The sky was clear, the temperature was perfect and the competition was fierce in all of the stakes races that day. But everyone was in anticipation of the Derby and the morning line favorite, Rule.
I was busy all day running back and forth from the paddock to the winner’s circle with HRTV host Scott Hazelton. My job was to find trainers, jockeys, and owners for interviews. One bit of advice for anyone in this same position–never wear peeptoes. My only complaint about the whole day was the condition of my feet at the end of the day–lets just say, I’m still recovering.
The event went off without a snag, and when it was all said and done, it was not favored Rule in the photo finish, but none other than Zito-trained Icebox to upset in the big race. Looks like Nick has another Kentucky Derby hopeful for May.
