Saratoga–Doing Her Part To Get Noticed!

With the 2011 Racing Season upon us, NYRA is making sure that outsiders get a chance to relate to Racing this season with a diverse marketing plan. Saratoga has teamed up with some very familiar faces this season such as NBC and Versus who will cover many racing dates over the course of the meet. Other names such as Dunkin Doughnuts, Coca Cola, and Coors will also be on hand throughout the racing season–all branding Saratoga for the meet. All these ventures is an effort of NYRA to get the word out that Saratoga is the place to be this summer!

Gloves Come Off Over Hialeah Ownership

A lawsuit moves forward between Halsey Minor and John Brunetti over the ownership of famed Hialeah Park Racecourse. A judge denied park owner John Brunetti’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit against the city of Hialeah that challenges Brunetti’s ownership.
Here’s the issue. When Brunetti took over as owner of Hialeah it was owned by the city. Brunetti then leased it from the city on the basis that it would be deeded to him as long as Thoroughbred Horse racing remained at Hialeah Park through 2008. But there was no Thoroughbred racing from 2001 through 2009. For this reason
Minor sued the city of Hialeah last year, alleging it broke its own laws by deeding the racetrack property to Brunetti in 2004. Trial is set for later this year.

Sunshine Millions and Holy Bull this Weekend

If you haven’t made it out to Gulfstream Park this season, this weekend would be a great time to start. The weekend kicks off Saturday with the $1.8 million Sunshine Millions, a series of six races run at Gulfstream and Santa Anita featuring the country’s top Florida and California bred horses. Gulfstream and Santa Anita will each play host to three races, with Gulfstream running the $500,000 Classic, $300,000 Filly & Mare Turf, and $200,000 Filly & Mare Sprint.

On Sunday, Gulfstream will host two major stakes. Many of the country’s top Triple Crown contenders will go to post in the one mile Holy Bull, and the country top 3-year-old fillies will race in the seven furlong Forward Gal.

If all of that is not enough, Disney’s coming to town. Actors will be on hand for autographs and giveaway’s promoting the release of Secretariat the movie. So come out and join us for a weekend of fun.

It’s Gonna Be A Great Meet!

If opening weekend was any indication of how 2011′s racing season will be, my prediction is–it’s gonna be great!

Opening weekend was full of music, fans, and excitement. Caribbean musicians greeted young and old as they strolled in from the parking lot. The music was playing, the drinks were flowing, and it seemed like everyone had on their dancing shoes. The luscious smells of wonderful foods filled the air and I just had to get me a “dirty water dog”.

Gulfstream has implemented new and exciting ideas to please everyone from the beginner to the professional. For beginners, there’s the “Bet With Me” crew. They can assist you with anything from picking a winner, to placing a bet on the automated wagering systems. There are new bets this year as well; like the 50 cent pick pick 5, and the 10 cent Rainbow 6. The owners and trainers will love the new Stakes and higher purses, and the crowd–well, it just keeps growing and growing!
