Les Salzman

“At the age of two, Les Salzman’s grandfather put me on a horse for the first time. In the 50 plus years since then, horses have been a driving force in both his professional and personal life.”

He’s done just about everything you can working with horses.

He has trained both thoroughbred and standardbreds. The majority of his work has been within the thoroughbred industry. With a lifetime thoroughbred winning percentage of over 18% (the national average is 8%). Les has frequently improved horses from low claiming ranks to allowance and stakes levels. He’s an extremely hands trainer with a strong focus on solid horsemanship and has had excellent success with horses with both physical and “mental-emotional” problems. Les is a student of nutritional, shoeing and alternative medicine concepts. He’s been licensed from New York to Florida.

Les has acted as the bank or trustee appointed operations manager for several commercial breeding farms which have foaled more than 200 per year. He’s managed both Thoroughbred and Standardbred stallions.

As a certified equine appraiser Les had presented before numerous courts and tax hearings as well as estate plannings. He’s appraised breeds ranging from minis to thoroughbreds and his subjects have included International Grand Prix level competitors to Eclipse Award winners.

While working for two sales companies, Les produced and conducted the first televised simulcast sales. He created and conducted the first live sale at a Casino as well as the first Steeplechase Horses In Training Sale. and introduced several innovations currently in use today.

Les has acted as consignor for as many as 70 yearlings in a season and has worked with similar numbers of broodmares, two year olds and horses of racing. Having sold in Florida, Maryland, Kentucky and New York and Les has purchased and sold many stakes winners for numerous well known owners in the industry. He has arranged breedings that have sold numerous stakes winners as well as having participated in the sale of an Eclipse Award winner.

He’s also syndicated and managed more than 15 equine limited partnerships.

Over the past 20 years Les has hosted several equine radio and television series and has
appeared on Foxsports, Sirius Radio and most recently on the World Talk Radio Network.
