LENTENOR FINISHES A CLOSE SECOND

lentenordrfEverybody was anxious in the Michael Matz barn on Wednesday; all awaiting how “prized” favorite Lentenor would do in this very important race. I was there filming the “Diary” of Lentenor for HRTV and you could feel the tension around this horse and his big race.

This race was important because if he did well, the possibilities of a “derby horse” are still achievable. And if not, well — the Barbaro fans would have to wait a bit more for that hopeful.

Luckily for us all, he held out for second and just got beat a nose. He did really well considering the race went off at a very slow pace and everything was left for the stretch run. His jockey Johnny Velasquez said he just ran a bit immature and he should be a bit sharper next time.

I’m not sure where the Matz camp will run him next, but as for me — he still has a chance.
